Hand-built architectural model of a fragmented modern life

A full life, by design.

A proposal for private lives, shared capability and institutions built to remain human.

The Founding Twelve

The proposition

The opposite of dependence is not isolation.

It is capable interdependence.

Capable Interdependence is a proposed model for a modern village: private homes and independent lives supported by shared tools, knowledge, infrastructure, work, care and accountable institutions.

Absolute self-sufficiency is neither realistic nor desirable. A capable person does not need to know how to do everything. A capable community does need to know how to do the things that matter.

01

Comfortable, but fragmented.

Work, health, housing, food and belonging live in separate systems. A life becomes a commute between them.

01

Comfortable, but fragmented.

Work, health, housing, food and belonging live in separate systems. A life becomes a commute between them.

02

A life can be designed deliberately.

Not controlled. Not standardized. Designed so the conditions for health, agency and belonging are easier to reach.

03

Private life. Shared capability.

A secure home of your own, within walking distance of people, tools and places worth sharing.

04

Technology should return time to human life.

Automate friction. Keep consequential decisions accountable to people. Preserve manual ways to keep essential systems working.

05

A capable community knows what matters.

No person must know everything. Together, the community can maintain food, water, energy, shelter, care and meaningful work.

06

Health is infrastructure.

Movement, food, sleep, prevention, mental health, friendship and access to qualified care belong in the design.

07

Needed, never trapped.

Every member should hold a meaningful role. Every member should retain private finances, outside relationships and a real path to leave.

08

Institutions must be stronger than personalities.

Authority is divided. Leadership is reviewable. The founder is bound by the same charter as everyone else.

09

Twelve people can begin the proof.

A founding group with independent judgment, useful capability and the patience to build before claiming success.

10

Not an escape from civilization.

A working prototype for a more complete way to live within it.

Understand the Founding Twelve

A fuller measure

Six forms of wealth make a good life.

A community that increases only financial wealth while eroding the other five is not prosperous.

01

Physical

Health, mobility, energy, nutrition, sleep and access to care.

02

Relational

Family, friendship, intimacy, trust, mentorship and belonging.

03

Capability

Skills, knowledge, judgment and the confidence to solve problems.

04

Economic

Income, savings, ownership, security and productive opportunity.

05

Environmental

Clean air, water, food, nature, beauty and safe surroundings.

06

Purpose

The knowledge that your work and presence matter to other people.

Belief becomes design

Principles matter only when they change the place.

Every public belief should produce a visible design response and a way to tell whether the institution lived up to it.

What we believeWhat changesHow we will know
01

Privacy and community are complementary

Private homes, acoustic boundaries and voluntary shared places

Members report both usable solitude and dependable connection

02

Freedom requires capability

Workshops, skill exchange, preparedness practice and manual fallbacks

Members gain practical skills without losing outside choice

03

Health is shared infrastructure

Everyday movement, excellent food, prevention and qualified outside care

Health measures improve without coercion or loss of privacy

04

Prosperity should create ownership

Transparent pay, personal savings and documented enterprise participation

Members become more economically independent over time

05

Technology should increase agency

Auditable systems, minimal surveillance and accountable human decisions

Automation saves time without hiding power or weakening fallback skills

06

Institutions must outlast personalities

Term limits, divided authority, external oversight and founder sunset

Leadership changes without threatening housing, work or belonging

A warm architectural model of private homes, gardens, work space and a shared table

An ordinary week

A complete life should still feel like your own.

01

Private morning

Breakfast at home and a day that begins without a compulsory communal ritual.

02

Useful work

Independent practice, outside employment or a village enterprise connected to visible outcomes.

03

Life nearby

A child, elder or neighbour can reach gardens, learning, care, tools and trusted people on foot.

04

Capability exchanged

Someone teaches first aid, finance, repair, cooking, governance or a professional skill.

05

One common table

A substantial weekly meal creates familiarity without turning every meal into an obligation.

06

Room to leave

Travel, outside friendships, quiet time and a private life remain ordinary parts of belonging.

Honest status

Build in public without pretending the unfinished is settled.

Known

The philosophy, rights direction, Founding Twelve goal and private-plus-shared model.

Being designed

The entities, ownership, governance details, enterprises, housing arrangements and development sequence.

Not promised

A return, liquidity, residence, particular property, approval, move-in date, service level or perfect community.

The Founding Framework / Version 0.1

We are not leaving modern life behind. We are building the modern village it forgot to include.

02Outside relationships, travel, media and professional advice

03Transparent compensation, budgets and conflicts of interest

04Independent medical, legal and psychological care

05Criticism, governance participation and protected reporting

06A practical departure path without retaliation or collective punishment

Every member should be needed.

No member should be trapped.

The test of power

Would the system remain fair under leaders we disliked?

01

No sacred founder

Authorship never grants authority over another person's life.

02

No permanent emergency powers

Any exceptional power is narrow, documented, reviewed and expires automatically.

03

No control of private relationships

Partners, families, friendships and reproductive decisions remain personal.

04

No forced severance

Criticism from family or friends is never grounds for isolation.

05

No surrender of identity

The organization never holds passports, bank access, personal devices or credentials.
